The conception, creation and management of this portal are owned by the Associazione Eventi e Comunicazione of Terni. However, the development of the portal is the result of collaboration among all the forces of the city, the economic activities and the associations of the City of Terni. All the historical and religious information presented on this website comes from authentic sources kept in the archives and libraries of the city and of the Umbria Region, some dating back to the 4th century A.D. The Basilica of Saint Valentine, dating back to the 3rd century A.D., bears unequivocal witness to the presence of Saint Valentine in this city. The latest archaeological evidence was the discovery in the 17th century of "a marble chest containing all his bones", officially recognized as belonging to Saint Valentine by the local authorities on the basis of a comparison of historical documents. The millennial devotion of the City of Terni to its Patron Saint has its origin in an earlier pagan devotion, dating back about two thousand years, and later transformed into the emerging Christian devotion, also given the religious importance Saint Valentine held in the first centuries of early Christianity. Today this millennial devotion is expressed through the love for Saint Valentine, to whom every citizen is especially devoted. A devotion of love that goes beyond the city limits to spread throughout the world, making Saint Valentine not only the Patron of the City of Terni, but also the Holy Protector of Lovers, due to the historical circumstances, the love and popular beliefs that link him to these places, and the many legends that have always accompanied him through the centuries.
